Search and Destroy!
I realize this is SUPER-late but at this point who cares! Here’s my January 2011 Hair Update. I played around with the scissors more than I expected to from November 2010-January 2011. The whole Search and Destroy method seemed to go on and on – especially when I had free time (not good).
WHAT IS THE SEARCH AND DESTROY METHOD?
Some of us know already and I personally started using this term only a while ago. I was doing it but didn’t have a name for it.
The Search and Destroy method is simply trimming your hair without losing your hair length. Instead of cutting inches of hair from entire sections to rid the mane of a few split ends, only strands with split ends are identified then snipped. The entire strand isn’t snipped of course just the damaged portion.
There’s no crying involved, no praying to the Gods. Snipping split ends off a few strands here and there won’t hurl you into a major panic attention. If your hair is cut into a particular style then the Search and Destroy method will allow you to maintain your current style. It’s not even something you need to do often (and I learned this the hard way). Don’t do this all the time – just don’t. You’ll not only look crazy but you’ll start to feel crazy.
Set aside a day and time to do it. Make sure you’re in a well-lit space (natural light is best I find) then start scanning your strands for split ends. When you find one, cut directly above the split end then moisturize the strand. That’s it. You’ll give yourself a pat on the back when you realize you haven’t massacred your hair by chopping off large sections just because you had a few pesky split ends. I always thought that was stupid anyway. It’s not worth losing all the hair you’ve worked so hard to keep on your head.
Laters les girls!

HOW TO USE:
Generously apply to damp hair after shampooing. Spread from hair roots to ends, coating liberally and evenly. Leave on for ten minutes, thoroughly rinse and style as desired. For deep penetrating heat conditioning , saturate hair, then apply a plastic cap or sit under a dryer for 10 minutes. Rinse well, then style as desired.
VERDICT:
So, I’m not doing flips about Paraffinum Liquidum (Mineral Oil) or Petrolatum (vaseline) but when I tried this I added some essential oils and another vital ingredient to the mixture. I deep conditioned how I always deep condition – with a plastic cap and a bonnet attached to my hair dryer. I have to admit, not bad. My hair felt soft. This softness didn’t last long but this product is worth a try. It was on sale when I purchased it but this one is definitely budget-friendly. If the company that formulates this product would be so kind as to remove the MINERAL OIL and the VASELINE (at least from the first six ingredients) this would be a GREAT PRODUCT.
The smell isn’t off-putting. Honestly, I don’t remember how it smelled (because of the essential oils I used) but like I said, it’s worth a try. It has some good ingredients but c’est dommage you won’t get the full benefits from these “good” ingredients due to the MINERAL OIL and VASELINE.
